Raw material

The main materials used for shieldings are:

  • Supermumetal for applications in low fields requiring high permeability.
  • Mumetal for  conventional shielding applications in low fields (a few mT max) where a good attenuation is required.
  • Iron-nickel alloys (36% or 50%) for shields in weak or strong fields with an intermediate attenuation.
  • Pure iron for strong fields.
  • Cryomumetal for shields operating at very low temperatures (a few Kelvin)
  • Cobalt iron or silicon iron is sometimes used, but in very specific cases.


The main thicknesses are:

  • Low thickness: 25 micron, 0.1 mm
  • Classic thickness: 0. 35 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.63 mm, 0.8 mm, 1 mm
  • Large thicknesses: 1.5 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm


The main formats are:

  • Width: 10 to 660 mm
  • Length: made upon request but within a maximum of 2 meters in the form of a plate.
